Confirmation Saints: Names, Lives and Virtues
Saints and Confirmation
Use this starter collection to find a saint to learn about, not simply a name to submit. Each link opens an existing biography. The practice suggestions are original reflection prompts, not quotations from the saints.
| Saint and biography | Virtue to explore | A practice to try |
|---|---|---|
| Francis of Assisi | Simplicity and care for creation | Choose one possession to share and one practical act of care. |
| Teresa of Calcutta | Service to people who are overlooked | Offer consistent help to someone who receives little attention. |
| Thérèse of Lisieux | Love in ordinary duties | Do one small task generously without asking for credit. |
| Thomas Aquinas | Faith seeking understanding | Study one difficult question patiently instead of settling for a slogan. |
| Carlo Acutis | Eucharistic devotion in everyday life | Make room for prayer alongside school, work and digital life. |
| Francis de Sales | Gentleness and patient communication | Respond calmly in a conversation you would normally avoid. |
| Jude Thaddaeus | Perseverance in difficult circumstances | Pray faithfully while taking the next practical step. |

How to use this collection
Read two or three biographies. Write down one detail that surprised you and one virtue you would like to practise. Discuss the choice with your sponsor or catechist, then check your parish’s naming requirements.
A name is the beginning of a relationship
You can ask your patron saint to pray for you, learn about their feast day, and return to their writings or life over time. Choosing a saint does not require sharing their nationality, occupation or every feature of their life.
Look carefully at the evidence
Saints lived in different periods, and biographies vary in the quality of their sources. Distinguish a documented event from a devotional story. For biblical saints, begin with the relevant Scripture passage; for modern saints, consult official biographies and canonization material where available.
Carlo Acutis was canonized by Pope Leo XIV on 7 September 2025. Mary Magdalene’s encounter with the risen Jesus is recounted in John 20. These are starting points for study, not substitutes for reading the whole life or passage.
