Saint Laurensô Nguyễn Văn Hưởng was a Vietnamese Catholic priest who served in the Western Tonkin region and was martyred at Ninh Bình on April 27, 1856, at about fifty-three years old. His death came during one of the repeated waves of persecution that Vietnam’s Catholic community endured under successive nineteenth-century emperors. He was beatified in 1909 and canonized in 1988 by Pope John Paul II among the 117 Martyrs of Vietnam.
