Jesús Méndez Montoya was a priest of the Archdiocese of Morelia, Mexico, with more than two decades of ministry behind him when he was killed at Valtierrilla, Guanajuato, on February 5, 1928, near the end of the Cristero War. He was beatified in 1992 and canonized in 2000 in the same group as fellow Cristero martyr Jenaro Sánchez Delgadillo.
