Saint Hesychius of Alexandria was a bishop martyred in Egypt in 311, the closing year of the last general persecution of Christians under the emperors Diocletian and Galerius, in the company of Saint Peter of Alexandria and companions named Pachomius and Theodore. His death fell just before Constantine’s eventual toleration of Christianity ended state persecution across the empire.

Hesychius held episcopal office in Egypt during the final and most severe phase of the Diocletianic persecution, a period in which Alexandria’s own bishop, Peter, was eventually executed in 311 after years evading arrest.
