Who Was Saint Giuse Túc?

Historical Setting
The 1860s persecution under Tự Đức intensified after France began military intervention in Vietnam, and the imperial court increasingly treated Catholics as suspected collaborators with a foreign power, regardless of the true loyalties of individual believers. Young people as well as elders were swept up in the arrests that followed.
Why the Church Remembers Saint Giuse Túc
Giuse Túc’s youth makes his witness especially striking: he faced the same demand to renounce his faith that fell on adults twice and three times his age, and the record preserves him among those who did not yield. His memory stands for the many young Vietnamese Catholics who shared fully in the era’s trials.
Canonization and Feast Day
He was beatified in 1951 by Pope Pius XII and canonized on 19 June 1988 by Pope John Paul II among the 117 Martyrs of Vietnam, whose shared feast is 24 November.
What Catholics Can Learn Today
A martyr who died so young challenges the assumption that deep faith commitment belongs only to the old or the already-formed. Saint Giuse Túc shows that young Catholics can be asked to give everything, and can answer that call.
A Prayer to Saint Giuse Túc
Saint Giuse Túc, young in years but steadfast in faith, pray for young Catholics today facing pressure to hide or abandon what they believe, that they may find in you a model of quiet courage. Amen.
