Saint Domingos Carvalho was a Catholic layman of Natal, Brazil, killed on July 16, 1645, in the massacre at the chapel of Cunhaú, where dozens of Catholics gathered for Mass were killed by Dutch Calvinist forces during the colonial war in northeastern Brazil. He is venerated among the Martyrs of Cunhaú and Uruaçu, among the first Brazilian-born saints recognized by the Church. Beatified in 2000, he was canonized by Pope Francis in 2017.
