Saint Domingo de Silos (1000–1073) was a Spanish Benedictine monk and abbot who restored the declining monastery of Silos in Castile, rebuilding its discipline, library, and community until it became one of medieval Spain’s most significant religious houses, later renamed in his honor as Santo Domingo de Silos. He worked during the Reconquista era, when monasteries near the frontier also ransomed Christian captives from Muslim rule. He died in 1073 at the age of seventy-two.
