Saint Christóbal, one of the Child Martyrs of Tlaxcala, was a young indigenous boy of about thirteen who, having been converted to Christianity through the early Franciscan missionaries in Mexico, was killed by his own father in 1527 at Atlihuetzía, Tlaxcala, after destroying household idols and rejecting the practice of ritual drunkenness. He was beatified in 1990 and canonized by Pope Francis in 2017, honored as one of the very first martyrs of the Americas.

Christóbal was a boy of the Tlaxcalan people in central Mexico who, soon after the Spanish conquest, embraced the Christian faith brought by the early Franciscan missionaries with remarkable fervor for one so young. He is remembered for destroying the household idols his father continued to venerate and for opposing the ritual drunkenness that accompanied traditional worship, actions that provoked violent anger from his own father, who killed him for it.
