Prayer to St. Peregrine

Prayers to the Saints

Patron of those with cancer

For the sick, and for those waiting on results.

St. Peregrine Laziosi carried a cancerous leg for years and was healed the night before its scheduled amputation. He is the patron of cancer patients, and his image hangs in oncology wards on every continent.

The Prayer

O great St. Peregrine,
you who have been called the Mighty Wonder-Worker
because of the numerous miracles you have obtained from God
for those who have had recourse to you:

for so many years you bore in your own flesh
this cancerous disease that destroys the very fibre of our being,
and you had recourse to the source of all grace
when the power of man could do no more.

You were favoured with the vision of Jesus
coming down from His cross to heal your affliction.

Ask of God and Our Lady the cure of the sick whom we entrust to you [name them].
Aided by your powerful intercession,
we shall sing to God, now and for all eternity,
a song of gratitude for His great goodness and mercy. Amen.

About This Devotion

His feast is 1 May. Many parishes hold an annual St. Peregrine Mass with the Anointing of the Sick — a sacrament for anyone seriously ill or facing surgery, not only for the dying, and one that may be received more than once. If you or someone you love is ill, ask a priest about it.
