Apostle of Divine Mercy

To the Polish sister who wrote the Diary.

Helena Kowalska was a domestic servant with three years of schooling who entered a convent, was given visions of Christ as Divine Mercy, and was told to record them. She died at thirty-three in 1938. Her Diary has since been translated into dozens of languages.

The Prayer

St. Faustina, apostle of Divine Mercy,
you were given the message the world most needed
and were disbelieved for years by those around you.

Obtain for me an unshakable trust in God's mercy:
trust when I have sinned badly,
trust when I cannot feel forgiven,
trust when I look at the world and see no mercy in it at all.

Teach me to be merciful in deed, in word and in prayer,
as you were taught.

Jesus, I trust in You. Amen.

About This Devotion

Her feast is 5 October. She was canonised in 2000 by St. John Paul II, who called her the great apostle of Divine Mercy in our time. The Divine Mercy Chaplet, the image, the Hour of Great Mercy and Divine Mercy Sunday all come through her.
