Nine days to the prince of the heavenly host.

Prayed in the nine days before the Feast of the Archangels, 29 September, and at any time protection is needed — for the Church, for a household, or for someone in spiritual danger.

Prayer for Each Day

St. Michael the Archangel,
glorious prince, chief and champion of the heavenly hosts,
guardian of the souls of men,
conqueror of the rebel angels:

how beautiful you are in your heaven-given splendour.

You did cast out of heaven Lucifer and his apostate crew.
Deliver us from all evil, we who turn to you with confidence,
and enable us by your gracious protection
to serve God more and more faithfully every day.

Pray for us, O glorious St. Michael, Prince of the Church of Jesus Christ,
that we may be made worthy of His promises. Amen.

The Prayer of Leo XIII

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do you, O Prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits
who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

About This Novena

The Chaplet of St. Michael, with its nine salutations to the nine choirs of angels, pairs naturally with this novena — one salutation for each day. Formal exorcism is reserved to a priest delegated by the bishop; prayers of protection like these are for everyone.
