The Prayer to the Guardian Angel is one of the most beloved Catholic prayers, traditionally taught to children from their earliest years. It acknowledges the teaching of the Church that each person is assigned a guardian angel by God to protect and guide them through life.

The Prayer

Angel of God, my guardian dear,
to whom God's love commits me here,
ever this day be at my side,
to light and guard, to rule and guide.
Amen.

About This Prayer

The Church teaches that guardian angels are a real and beautiful gift of God’s providence (CCC 336). This prayer first appears in the writings of Reginald of Canterbury (c. 1100) and has been recommended by popes and saints throughout the centuries. Pope Francis has spoken warmly of devotion to guardian angels.
