Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart
Devotional Prayers
Cor Iesu Sacratissimum
Giving your life, your family and your home to the Heart of Jesus.
Devotion to the Sacred Heart rests on a simple claim: God loves with a human heart. The act of consecration answers that love by handing over everything the heart of a person contains — memory, will, affections, home and family — to the Heart that was pierced for them.
The Prayer
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I give You my heart,
and I consecrate to You myself, my life,
my family and all that I have.
I give You my memory, my understanding and my whole will.
All that I am and all that I possess You have given me;
I surrender it all to You, to be disposed of according to Your will.
Give me only Your love and Your grace;
with these I am rich enough, and I ask for nothing more.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in You. Amen.
Consecration of a Family
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, who made known to St. Margaret Mary
Your desire to reign over Christian families,
we are gathered here today to proclaim Your dominion over our home.
Be the King of our household:
of those who are present, of those who are absent,
of those who are living, and of those who have died.
Rule over our joys and our sorrows, our work and our rest.
May this house be a place of peace,
and may Your Heart be its centre. Amen.
About This Prayer
The devotion in its modern form comes from the revelations to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque at Paray-le-Monial between 1673 and 1675. Families often make this consecration on the Feast of the Sacred Heart — the Friday after Corpus Christi — or when enthroning an image of the Sacred Heart in the home. Many renew it on the First Friday of each month.
