Consecration to St. Joseph

Devotional Prayers

To the guardian of the Redeemer

Placing yourself under the protection of the man God trusted with His Son.

God entrusted His Son and His Son’s mother to Joseph. Consecration to St. Joseph asks him to take the same care of you — a devotion that spread widely during the Year of St. Joseph proclaimed by Pope Francis in 2020, and one traditionally made on 19 March or 1 May.

The Prayer

O dearest Saint Joseph,
I consecrate myself to your honour
and give myself to you,
that you may always be my father,
my protector and my guide
in the way of salvation.

Obtain for me a great purity of heart
and a fervent love of the interior life.
After your example, may I do all my actions
for the greater glory of God,
in union with the Divine Heart of Jesus
and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

And do you, O blessed Saint Joseph,
pray for me that I may share in the peace and joy
of your holy death. Amen.

The Memorare to St. Joseph

Remember, O most pure spouse of the Virgin Mary,
my great protector Saint Joseph,
that never was it known
that anyone invoked your protection
and implored your help without being comforted.

Inspired by this confidence, I come to you
and fervently commend myself to you.
Despise not my petition, dear foster father of our Redeemer,
but accept it graciously. Amen.

About This Devotion

Joseph is patron of the universal Church, of workers, of fathers, of the dying — the last because tradition holds he died in the arms of Jesus and Mary, which is as good a death as anyone has had. Consecration is often preceded by thirty-three days of preparation, ending on one of his feasts.
