Chaplet of the Sacred Heart

Chaplets

Thirty-three invocations

A short chaplet for First Fridays and the month of June.

A simple bead devotion to the Heart of Jesus, prayed on a chaplet of thirty-three beads — one for each year of Our Lord’s earthly life — divided into six groups of five, with three additional beads in honour of the Holy Family.

How to Pray It

  1. On the crucifix: the Sign of the Cross and the Apostles’ Creed.
  2. On the three beads: three Hail Marys in honour of the Holy Family.
  3. For each of the six groups of five beads: pray Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in You five times.
  4. Between the groups: Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make my heart like unto Thine.
  5. Conclude with the prayer below.

The Closing Prayer

O most holy Heart of Jesus,
shower Your blessings in abundant measure
upon Your holy Church, upon the Supreme Pontiff,
and upon all the clergy.

To the just, grant perseverance;
convert sinners; enlighten unbelievers;
bless our relatives, friends and benefactors;
assist the dying;
free the souls in purgatory;
and extend over all hearts
the sweet empire of Your love. Amen.

About This Chaplet

It is most often prayed on the First Friday of the month and daily through June, the month of the Sacred Heart. Like every chaplet, it is a frame for attention rather than a formula: the repetition is what allows the mind to settle on the Heart it keeps naming.
