Jesus, I trust in You

Five words at the bottom of the image, and what they cost.

The whole Divine Mercy devotion reduces to one line painted at the foot of the image: <em>Jesus, I trust in You.</em> It is easy to say and hard to mean, particularly when the thing you are trusting Him with has already gone wrong.

The Act

Jesus, I trust in You.

I trust You with what I cannot fix,
with what I have ruined,
and with what I am afraid of.

I trust that Your mercy is greater than my sin,
older than my failure,
and stronger than my fear.

When I cannot feel it, I choose it.
When I cannot understand what You are doing, I choose it.

Jesus, I trust in You. Amen.

For a Soul That Despairs of Mercy

Lord, I have done things I cannot say aloud,
and I have believed for a long time that they put me beyond You.

You said that the greater the sinner, the greater the right to Your mercy.
I am taking You at Your word,
because I have nothing else left to take. Amen.

About This Devotion

The devotion insists on one point above all others: distrust of God’s mercy, not sin itself, is what keeps a soul away from Him. The prayer is short by design. It is meant to be said in the moment when nothing longer is possible.
