Saint Phêrô Nguyễn Văn Lựu was a Catholic priest of the Western Cochinchina mission in southern Vietnam, martyred at Mỹ Tho, Tiền Giang, on April 7, 1861, at about forty-eight years of age. His death came during the last and among the fiercest phases of persecution under Emperor Tự Đức, which struck the southern Vietnamese Church as harshly as it had struck the north decades earlier. Beatified in 1909, he was canonized in 1988 by Pope John Paul II among the 117 Vietnamese Martyrs.
