Prayer for Vocations

Prayers for Special Intentions

For those discerning a call to the priesthood or consecrated life.

The Church constantly needs holy priests, religious brothers and sisters, and consecrated lay people. This prayer asks God to call many to serve Him in the priesthood and religious life, and to give those He calls the grace to respond generously.

The Prayer

God our Father,
You call all who believe in You
to grow perfect in love
by following in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, Your Son.
Call many to serve You in the priesthood and the religious life.
Fill those You have called with the gifts of Your Holy Spirit,
and make them worthy ministers of Your Gospel,
so that Your Word may be heard in all the world,
and the nations may see You as You are,
a Father of love who desires the salvation of all.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

About This Prayer

Jesus said, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest field’ (Matthew 9:37–38). The Church observes the World Day of Prayer for Vocations on the Fourth Sunday of Easter (Good Shepherd Sunday). Families, parishes, and schools are encouraged to pray daily for vocations.
