This prayer prepares the faithful to participate worthily in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass — the most important act of Catholic worship, in which Christ’s sacrifice on Calvary is made present on the altar.

The Prayer

Almighty God, I am about to assist at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
I ask You to inspire me with sentiments of faith, reverence, and love.
May I offer this Mass in union with the whole Church throughout the world,
for the intentions of Your Sacred Heart,
for the conversion of sinners,
and for all who are in need.
Amen.

About This Prayer

The Mass is the source and summit of the Christian life (Lumen Gentium, 11). At Mass, the sacrifice of Calvary is made sacramentally present, and the faithful unite their own offerings — their prayers, works, joys, and sufferings — with the offering of Christ to the Father.
