Gloria Patri

A short doxology praising the Holy Trinity.

The Glory Be, or Gloria Patri, is a short doxology — a prayer of praise to the Holy Trinity. It is one of the oldest prayers in the Catholic tradition, tracing back to the early Church.

The Prayer

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.

About This Prayer

The Gloria Patri has been used in the Liturgy of the Hours since at least the fourth century. It is prayed at the end of each decade of the Rosary, after each psalm in the Divine Office, and as a response throughout Catholic liturgical and private prayer.
