Divine Mercy Chaplet
Chaplets
Prayed on ordinary Rosary beads. Begins with the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Apostles’ Creed.
The Divine Mercy Chaplet was given by Our Lord to St. Faustina Kowalska of Poland in 1935. It is one of the most widely prayed Catholic devotions of the modern era, focused on the infinite mercy of God and the redemptive power of Christ’s suffering.
The Prayer
Opening (once): Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world. On each small bead (Hail Mary beads, 10 times per decade): For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Closing doxology (3 times): Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
About This Prayer
St. Faustina Kowalska (1905–1938) received visions of Christ with rays of red and white light (symbolising His Blood and the water from His side) and was given the Chaplet and the Divine Mercy image. Pope John Paul II canonised her in 2000 and established the Feast of Divine Mercy on the Second Sunday of Easter. The 3 o’clock hour is the Hour of Mercy.
