Act of Faith
Acts of Virtue
A profession of Catholic faith in the truths revealed by God.
The Act of Faith is a formal Catholic prayer in which the faithful profess their belief in God and in all the truths He has revealed through the Catholic Church. It is one of the three acts of theological virtue — Faith, Hope, and Charity — traditionally prayed together.
The Prayer
O my God, I firmly believe that You are one God in three Divine Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I believe that Your Divine Son became man and died for our sins, and that He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all the truths which the Holy Catholic Church teaches, because You have revealed them, who can neither deceive nor be deceived. Amen.
About This Prayer
The Acts of Faith, Hope, and Charity are traditionally recommended as morning and evening prayers and as preparation for receiving the sacraments. The Act of Faith is an act of submission to the teaching authority of the Church (the Magisterium), which Catholics believe speaks with divine authority.
