Evening Prayer

Daily Prayers

Prayed at the close of the day, giving thanks and seeking forgiveness.

Evening Prayer is a brief Catholic prayer of thanksgiving and contrition prayed at the end of the day. It acknowledges God’s presence throughout the day, asks forgiveness for sins committed, and seeks His protection through the night.

The Prayer

O my God, at the end of this day I thank You
for all the graces I have received from You.
I am sorry for the sins I have committed this day.
Forgive me, O Lord.
Protect me this night,
and may Your grace be with me always.
Amen.

About This Prayer

The practice of evening prayer (known as Compline in the Liturgy of the Hours) is ancient in the Church. This short traditional form reflects the three movements of Catholic evening prayer: gratitude, contrition, and trust in God’s protection.
